The very first DC-8-31 was ordered for Panagra by the world's very first DC-8 operator, Pan Am, along with three other DC-8's. This was the worlds first jet airliner to operate in South America. N8274H Delivered to Panagara 6/6/60. Panagra Merged with Braniff 2/1/67 and Braniff operated the jet on the same route for a short time before selling it to Capitol.
Here she is over the coast of Califoria on a pre-delivery flight out of Douglas Long Beach. This photo was used by Panagra on post cards.
The photo above shows her taxi in Miami on April, 1960,
the day of her delivery flight from Douglas in California to Panagra!
Thank you John Shultz! He was there when this photo was taken, and
his father was the flight engineer!
Another early photo
I'm not positive this photo is of N8274H, but I think it is due to the 8's
painted on the engines.
